How to use color swatches and palettes in Adobe InDesign

So you just bought one of our design templates, because you're eager to jump into making your own magazine, brochure or look book, but then you remember that you don't have any idea how to get started in Adobe InDesign.

Please don't fret—we've got your back.

In what will be an ongoing effort, today we're sharing the first of many tutorial videos around the topic of InDesign Basics. We want to have this series available for you, so you never feel left out in the cold, like most other template designers do to their customers.

In this first video, Dave is talking all things color, and how to add, change, and manage the color palette in whichever InDesign project you're working on.

Color many not seem like it should be the very first step in InDesign tutorials, but we're making the assumption that if you've purchased one of our templates, then you already have at least the basic understanding of how to get a document up and running within the program.

That said, Dave will be making another tutorial soon about how to start documents from scratch, as well as a laundry list of other tutorials to come soon.

Here's a short list of what other videos are coming next:

  • Starting a Document From Scratch
  • Importing Text and Images
  • Master Pages
  • Pagination/Page Flow
  • Paragraph and Character Styles
  • Typography 101

And there will be others, some that go deeper, and others just for fun. If you haven't already subscribed to Dave's YouTube channel, now is a good time, because you don't want to miss out when these videos go live.

Also, if you're interested in the template used in this video, it's called Vivant, and you can find it HERE.

Finally, if you have other questions about how the templates work, please send us a message on either Facebook or Instagram. We'll get back to you with some help as soon as quickly as we can.
